Staff Spotlight: Tyler Hwang

A few weeks ago I was incredibly honored to be accepted to the Georgetown University School of Medicine Class of 2025. The school was my dream program and to be able to transform that once distant prospect into a future reality still feels ethereal. At the epicenter of Georgetown’s clinical philosophy is ​cura personalis ​ - care for the whole person. This ethos transcends medicine and can be instilled across all acts of social service. Applying a holistic lens to my work has been an endeavor I’ve tried to uphold throughout my experience at Ballard Food Bank.

Helpings Our Neighbors in Need

From morning until evening, the Ballard Food Bank is buzzing with activity. Rock music plays on the speakers, fans hum throughout the warehouse and a small army of volunteers and staff tackle every task necessary to deliver healthy meals to people in need throughout North Seattle.

Board Member Spotlight: Hsiao-Ching Chou

Hsiao-Ching Chou has been a Director on the board for about two years. She is an author of the “Chinese Soul Food” cookbook and works as a communications consultant. As a member of the board she helps with many aspects of the administrative side of the food bank.

The Day of a Home Delivery Volunteer

As a food delivery volunteer I was assigned one of the many delivery routes. During the coronavirus pandemic new routes have been added, but there have always been routes, mainly for senior citizens, as they can’t leave their house as easily to go to the food bank.
