Power of Community

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.

I’ve always loved this quote. The other morning it came top of mind when I was greeted by one of our senior clients. She gave me a hug and said, “thank you, you are good.” I gestured to the food bank to show that we as a collective – the Ballard Food Bank community of clients, volunteers, donors and staff– are making a positive, meaningful change in our community.

Our community is generous with their resources – financial, time, talents – all of which brings food and hope to our neighbors throughout northwest Seattle.

Even after five years, the bustle and energy at the food bank continues to amaze me. Each week our neighbors come together from a variety of backgrounds to share their time and energy. On an average day, we see high school students learning about service, retirees finding community, companies building teams through volunteerism, and individuals and families finding a place locally to make a difference.

Our committed donors inspire me with their generosity and passion for our mission. Donors make a crucial difference, from a child asking their friends to donate in lieu of birthday gifts to an anonymous surprise donation or a committed monthly donor. Donors help Ballard Food Bank:

  • feed over 1,200 people each week

  • prepare weekend meals for 460 students in 18 schools

  • deliver food to 100 home bound individuals

  • provide financial assistance 800 times in a year to keep someone housed and warm

Our donors and volunteers are part of a group of thoughtful, committed citizens who are changing the world. That’s the power of community.

You can ensure that we continue providing food and hope to our neighbors by supporting our mission today. Donate to Ballard Food Bank and you join an incredible group of neighbors who are committed to making a difference right now.

With gratitude,
