Cecily's Story
How did you get connected to the Ballard Food?
When an elderly family friend I volunteered to take charge of died after 4 years in my charge, I felt the need to volunteer for another good cause. Ballard food Bank is just across the bridge from me, so I got on the volunteer list. Being a vulnerable senior myself. I had to exit myself from physical contact.
How has your relationship with the Ballard Food Bank impacted your life?
BFB was one of the best life choices I could have made in my senior years. I loved going every Monday morning and being part of the scramble and hubbub to get food sorted and out on the floor along with the diverse fellow volunteers. It has made me a better person.
What would you tell others about your experience with the Ballard Food Bank?
If you are considering ways to help others during this time in our lives. You couldn't do better than giving BFB a jingle.
What are you most excited about with our new permanent home scheduled to open later this year?
I am excited to get back to my physical presence in the new digs.
In your own words, tell us your story and describe your experience with the Ballard Food Bank.
I was really feeling the need to find a way to give back to my community to which I have been so fortunate to be a part of. I made new friends and got a feeling of accomplishment. I thought I was only going to be away for 4 weeks when my husband and I left on January 29 2020 for in Southern CA to visit family. We returned March 3 to the beginning of what would become a terrible pandemic. The rest is history.......
