Simplifying Limits and Signage in the Community Market

We're simplifying the shopping process!

Starting January 13th, we will be moving to a new card system. Rather than the series of colorful shopping cards, each household will be given one white card, alongside a red meat card indicating pounds based on household size. Limits for all other items will now be the same regardless of household size. This change to signage does not impact the amount of food available.

For the past year or so, the item limits for smaller and larger households have been the same for nearly all items as we work to make sure our staples stretch throughout the week. Our hope is that this change will cut down on confusion for both shoppers and volunteers, while more accurately reflecting the food supply. When we have a lot of a particular item, we will continue to increase or remove the limit for all household sizes so everyone can get what they need.

As our community of shoppers has continued to grow over the last couple of years, we’ve made several changes to help make sure everyone is able to access food in our community market, including the fast order sheet and shopping reservation processes we introduced last year as well as the meat ticket process. This latest change is another way to make sure everyone can have as smooth of a shopping experience as possible.

Please ask market staff if you have any questions!
