New Display of Multi-Media Artist Bethann Shannon's Work
We periodically change out the art in our lobby to feature different artists in our community. Our current featured artist, multi-media artist Bethann Shannon - A.K.A “The Art Angel” - is a community member at Ballard Food Bank with a lifelong background in self-expression.
Bethann’s passion for people and love for Frida Kahlo come through in her pieces. You’ll see Kahlo’s familiar face in many of her works, as well as monkeys, hearts, 11:11, lucky clouds, and infinity symbols.
Bethann says of her art,
“Most of my work is about my life, specifically my mental health, emotions, challenges, process, dreams, and desires. Often, I make art about social injustices and global issues that affect us all. I hope my work inspires others and helps in healing others and the planet.”
Growing up around art and activism, Bethann has used art as a healing tool and a way to self-explore and self-discover. She works from intuition, letting life and experience lead her hand.
With a love for community art, these days you can find her taking her paintings out for walks and on the bus, called “Art Walking - Art Talking”, or at local parks and the Ballard farmers market, dubbed “ART (therapy) IN THE PARK”, live painting and offering all ages to join in making art.
She often brings mini canvases and paint pens for children to paint while waiting in the Kindness Café!
We are grateful to share Bethann’s artwork with our community. To see these works in person, stop by our lobby during our open hours.
