Weekend Food for Kids

Providing students with nutritious and easy-to-prepare meals for the weekends

The Weekend Food for Kids program provides a weekend’s worth of easy-to-prepare, nutritious food to any child who identifies as needing the resource. While at school, children receive as much as half of their daily calories- Weekend Food For Kids works to bridge the nutrition gap for students outside of school. The program is available to all students in Seattle Public Schools through the work of several agencies, and Ballard Food Bank supports schools in Northwest Seattle.

Participation in Weekend Food for Kids is confidential. School staff, teachers, and family members identify students who would benefit from weekend meals. Students are also welcome to sign up on their own. Each week, the Food Bank packs bags with 3 dinners, 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts, and snacks including fresh produce. School personnel and volunteers then discreetly distribute the bags to students on Thursdays or Fridays.

Students in Seattle Public Schools in our service area are invited to sign up for the program at any point throughout the school year. Weekend Food for Kids runs from September to June. When school is not in session, we collaborate with youth summer programs to continue distribution. We strive to offer a rotating menu of culturally appropriate, nourishing meals and can accommodate any food allergy or other dietary need.

How to participate
